Transcending The Shadow Artist

Yes, this is a health & fitness podcast.  But physical health is only one component of holistic wellness.  If your life feels amiss, your unfocused mind wanders or your spirit is adrift, then are you truly healthy in a complete sense?

Of course not.  So after several very nutrition and athlete focused episodes, it feels right to swing the pendulum from the physical back to the more ephemeral and return Julie Piatt to the co-host seat so we can roll up our sleeves and delve into matters less — well, let’s say “tactile” — and examine what’s behind the blocks preventing us from actualizing those latent dreams deferred that reside within all too many of us.

It all starts and ends with creativity.  And creativity my friends, isn’t just for “artists” — because we are all artists, our lives and passions the expression of that art.  To wit:

  • What is impairing your ability to realize the best version of yourself?
  • What is a shadow artist and how can it be overcome?
  • Tools for tackling self-doubt, fear patterns & obstacles to unlock & unleash your latent creativity as a channel for manifesting positive life change.
  • And oh yeah, my feelings about Valentine’s Day…..

    feedback comes with having a popular podcast. I don’t think anyone is personally attacking Julie. I think they dislike her delivery (at times). She come off as holier than thou on certain topics and as if she has accomplished some magical awakening we can’t all understand for ourselves. Continuing to say “I’m a strong woman, with an opinion” every podcast seems like you are trying to shape our opinion of you. Julie is smart enough and well spoken enough for us to pick up that without you two having to tell us over and over again. Anyone that listens to the podcast can tell Rich and Julie are very well spoken and intelligent. I think feedback is healthy and Julie isn’t above it. What is so interesting about Rich and other athletes that get into sports after an addiction is that they seem to be mentally stronger. They’ve been through the storms and it made them stonger. Kudo’s to Julie for helping Rich along the way. Awesome chemistry between the two of them today.
    If I could ask Rich a question it would be.. do you think you are a better athlete because of the hell you went through with addiction. Do you think you could’ve gone through the Epic Race/Ultra Man mentally w/out the trials you went through during your addiction process.
    thank you Julie and Rich for the great entertainment. I don’t always agree with your takes but the podcast always makes me think. Thanks for putting yourself out there.

    I could only take 20 minutes or so. You can’t spoon feed spiritual info in my experience. No offense, but dig the mental side (discussion) of things from the athletic angle. Didn’t make it to Rich’s feelings on Valentines day but I’d love to hear it. I imagine its similar to mine… Its not a holiday of love… its fund raising for florists and Hallmark. Love your mate everyday!

    I agree totally. I love when Rich talks about things like coconut oil but I could care less about what someone “vibrationally” feels about it. That doesn’t do me any favors. I also agree about spirituality stuff, whats next a priest that exercises a lot to tell us how to get our soul right through confession? Sorry Rich, I hate to bring negativity but I just couldn’t finish this one. Your James Wilks podcast was amazing though. Keep it up, can’t hit it out of the park every time.

  • Thanks, that was very interesting – it wasn’t what I expected, but once I realised that it wasnt just about running I appreciated the very open and intimate view of both of your ideas and lives. I think people should realise this is more of a personal conversation and not an interview about running techniques or diet. Loved the song at the end. Looking forward to watching Down Dog next 🙂

    Another great episode. For me you’ve got the right mix of nutrition/fitness talk and guests. I’m far from ‘spiritual’ but listen with an open mind and have taken away a lot from some of the ‘crazy hippie bs’ (as Joe Rogan might call it). Keep it coming, hope you have Julie and others with similar perspectives on again soon!

My expectations were too high, I think. Your podcast is always intelligent and thought-provoking. You guys were amazing in this one. Julie your song is so beautiful.
